Orchestras

AdYO — Adelaide Youth Orchestra

AdYO is a symphony orchestra comprised of South Australia’s best emerging musicians aged 14-25. Under the baton of Artistic Director, Keith Crellin OAM, AdYO allows young instrumentalists to showcase their orchestral playing skills

AdSi — Adelaide Youth Sinfonia

The Adelaide Youth Sinfonia (AdSI) is AdYO’s second symphony orchestra and young musicians who participate in AdSI enjoy the full orchestral experience. Playing in AdSI also offers an opportunity for young musicians to work with their peers from around the State.

AYS — Adelaide Youth Strings

The Adelaide Youth Strings (AYS) is a large string orchestra catering for primary-aged string musicians aged 8 to 12. Directed by Adelaide Symphony Orchestra violist, Martin Butler, AYS focuses on learning music and developing ensemble skills in a fun and friendly team environment.

 

Conductors

Keith Crellin OAM

Keith Crellin is Head of the String Department and conductor in residence at the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide and Artistic Director and Conductor of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra.

Philip Paine

Philip Paine is a principal horn player with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.  He has been a full time member of the orchestra since 1992.

Martin Butler

Martin Butler is conductor of the Adelaide Youth Strings. When he was 11 he received a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music, London. He studied music composition at Surrey University under Reginald Smith-Brindle and Robin Maconie, graduating with a first class Honours and Masters Degree.

 

Management

Christopher Wainwright – General Manager

Christopher Wainwright came to arts management in the late 1990s from the background of a musicologist with a strong passion for early music who appreciated the role good management plays in its successes. Working in the arts as a communications and marketing manager is just one aspect of his career. He has also worked as a corporate social responsibility journalist for Our Community’s quarterly magazine, Business Community Intelligence and as a freelance arts journalist with Arts Hub Australia, State of the Arts and the Australian Financial Review.
