The Adelaide Youth Strings (AYS) is a large string orchestra catering for primary-aged string musicians aged 8 to 12. Directed by Adelaide Symphony Orchestra violist, Martin Butler, AYS focuses on learning music and developing ensemble skills in a fun and friendly team environment.
The orchestra performs all types of music, including: classical, rock, pop, jazz and world music. They have entertained people of all ages, from shoppers in Rundle Mall, visitors to the SA Museum and Adelaide Zoo and performing to over 20,000 people at the ASO’s Santos Symphony Under the Stars.
Musicians have an annual rehearsal camp and primary schools concert tour.
