AdYO 2017 Orchestral Auditions

Auditions for the 2017 season have now closed.

Some late audition applications may be accepted.

Please call the AdYO Office on 8361 8896 for more information.

The Adelaide Youth Orchestras showcase over 250 young people each year as members of four outstanding orchestras. Selected from a wide demographic, and based on their musical talent, these young musicians make a powerful contribution to Adelaide and South Australia’s creative landscape.

Aged between eight and twenty four, AdYO musicians are selected annually through audition.

Our four orchestras, the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra, Adelaide Youth Sinfonia and Adelaide Youth Strings, provides opportunities for making music and orchestral development pathways for young musicians. Students in the Adelaide Youth Orchestra and Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra may also be invited to join AdYO’s String Quartet, Wind or Brass Quintets.

David Tonkin Memorial Scholarships

Thanks to the generous support from the SA Government and private donors, in 2017 AdYO will be able to offer a number of scholarships for students experiencing financial and/or geographic disadvantage. Please apply for the scholarship with your audition application. When you receive your audition results, you will also be advised of your scholarship application result.

Annual Program

AdYO’s annual program includes rehearsals, tutorials, concerts, music camps and tours. Each orchestra presents several concerts at venues around Adelaide, including Elder Hall, Concordia College and the Adelaide Town Hall.

Highlights include:

  • Performing concerti with leading soloists
  • Tutorials and intensive rehearsals with musicians from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Australian String Quartet, Band of the SA Police and the Elder Conservatorium of Music
  • AdYO’s Gala Concert, featuring all four of AdYO’s orchestras in the Adelaide Town Hall
  • School Tours and AdSI’s popular Junior Proms performed for 1-5 year olds

Commitment

Performing with our orchestras and ensembles requires a significant commitment from musicians and their families for the entire year. AdYO activities must take precedence over sport, social and work commitments. Musicians are advised to carefully consider their ability to attend all rehearsals, concert performances and activities weekends.
