ASO Santos Symphony Under the Stars

Santos Symphony Under the Stars is the ASO’s biggest alfresco event of the year. This year the ASO is joined by conductor Marc Taddei and one of Australia’s most accomplished and best-loved sopranos, Antoinette Halloran. Join thousands of people in Adelaide’s Elder Park as the sun goes down, for an unforgettable night of popular classics, including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture complete with bells and fireworks!

Come and witness the Adelaide Youth Orchestra as they raise the iron curtain, with Tchaikovsky’s exuberant depiction of Rome and AdYO’s youngest member and rising star, Tianyou Ma performing Kabalevsky’s ever-joyous Violin Concerto. AdYO will perform Sibelius’ symbolic depiction of Finnish insurrection against Russian oppression.

To thank the people who make our society a richer and happier place, each year Adelaide Youth Strings presents a Community Concert. This year AYS will thank the Friends of the ASO who, since day one, have been staunch supporters and friends of the Adelaide Youth Orchestras. During their one hour concert AYS will perform enchanting and exhilarating string music from the classical, folk, popular and world music genres.

AdYO Maestro Series 2 | “From Russia with Love”
Throughout time composers have been captivated by love, romantic love or love of a place, a time or music. Sculthorpe depicts his for Kakadu; Stephenson for the baroque with his creative neo-baroque apotheosis, Concertino; & Prokofiev for Shakespeare’s classic love story, Romeo and Juliet.

AdYO Gala Concert | “Youth Revolution”
Two hundred musicians and three orchestras bring their energy, passion and talent to a Youth Revolution, at AdYO’s annual Adelaide Town Hall Gala. International prize-winning pianist Konstantin Shamray will perform Rachmaninoff’s virtuosic and dramatic Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, conducted by acclaimed guest conductor Luke Dollman. Adelaide Youth Strings and Adelaide Youth Sinfonia will join in the celebration with a selection of works.

Adelaide Festival Centre’s Something on Saturday | Discover the Orchestra!

Each year our youth strings ensemble enchants audiences at a series of outdoor performances around the city in spaces including Rundle Mall, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Adelaide Zoo. In 2012, AYS return to present a 50-minute recital of delightful classical, folk and world music beneath the elegant canopy of the Adelaide Botanic Garden’s Schomburgk Pavilion.

Adelaide Youth Orchestras Community Concert

This concert will be an afternoon of absolute firsts, with the launch of a brand new orchestra, the Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra and the first-ever metropolitan concert by the Adelaide Youth Sinfonia. AdYO Maestro Series 3 | “War & Peace”
We don’t often celebrate War and Peace. This program is the perfect opportunity with two works that are closely associated with the theme, Shostakovich’s Festive Overture written to commemorate the 1917 Russian Revolution and Tchaikovsky’s Hamlet. In between, gifted young cellist James Morley will perform Saint-Saëns' imaginatively dramatic Cello Concerto No 1.
