James, aged 15, has been learning the cello for eight years. He has played in the AdYO orchestras over the past six years from Adelaide Youth Strings, trombone in Adelaide Youth Sinfonia and currently cello in AdYO. James has won numerous Adelaide Eisteddfod prizes over the years including the David Bishop Medallion for the most promising cellist for the past four years. In 2011 James won first place in the Elder Conservatorium Junior Concerto Competition and in 2011 James also won the Metropolitan Male Choir Scholarship for 2012.
James is a year 10 student at St Peter’s College where he enjoys playing cello, trombone and singing in a variety of musical ensembles, he also plays trombone in JazzSA’s Superband.
James played a solo in the 2009 and 2011 Adelaide International Cello Festivals and he participates in the Australian Youth Orchestras National Music Camp and Young Symphonists programs.
James is currently studying cello with Janis Laurs and has enjoyed learning with Hilary Kleinig over the past five years.
