Change of Chair

Farewelling & welcoming Adelaide Youth Orchestra’s Chair

Ian Carrig, who has chaired the Adelaide Youth Orchestra since its establishment, retired as chair at the board meeting on Tuesday 16 March 2010. The board unanimously elected Rosie Burn as the new chair.

Founded in 2001, Adelaide Youth Orchestra has become a key player in South Australia’s youth arts and music education arenas. Ian has played an integral role in the organisation’s growth, leading the establishment of its three orchestras, attracting corporate and business support and growing the community’s awareness and engagement with the orchestras.

Announcing his decision to retire, Ian said he has gained tremendous satisfaction in his role as Chair. “I have been encouraged to see the orchestra go from strength to strength, and last year’s regional tour was a defining moment in relation to the maturity of the organisation.”

“The Adelaide Youth Orchestra has reached a point where I feel it is time to hand over the reigns.”

The Board of Adelaide Youth Orchestra sincerely acknowledged all that Ian has contributed and has requested that he continue to provide support and stewardship as a board member.

Incoming chair Rosie Burn joined the Adelaide Youth Orchestra board in May 2009, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience as a marketing and communications specialist. She presently works for Medicare Australia and has previously been employed by the City of Onkaparinga, Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

“It is a rare treat to be involved with an arts organisation – particularly a small and relatively young one – that has energy and drive and is operating on such a solid footing” remarked Rosie, “These things don’t happen by accident and only come from strong and committed leadership. I look forward to ensuring that AdYO continues to flourish as it has under Ian’s watch.”
