The Adelaide Youth Orchestra is a small organisation that achieves big things, thanks to the generous support we receive from the wider community.
In addition to presenting concerts in Adelaide, during 2009 members of AdYO undertook their first regional tour. Our young players gave impressive performances to audiences in Noarlunga, Renmark and Tanunda helping to fulfil our ambition of exposing the orchestra to people outside metropolitan Adelaide. The Adelaide Youth Sinfonia gave their first ever performances of Babies Proms for disadvantaged families living in western suburbs, while a first for the Adelaide Youth Strings was a community concert to thank more than 300 people who are volunteers for other organisations.
Buoyed by our 2009 artistic successes, this year we are programming concerts with leading Australian and international soloists and are commissioning new works from the crème of Australia’s emerging composers.
As well as attending weekly rehearsals led by members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Elder Conservatorium, our young musicians receive individual and group tuition from prominent members of Adelaide’s musical community. While only some will go on to become professional musicians, all gain lifelong benefits from the experience of being a member of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra.
