Love will definitely be in the air at Elder Hall on Sunday June 3 when the talented 80-piece Adelaide Youth Orchestra - under the direction of special guest conductor Luke Dollman - presents its Maestro Series 2 concert ‘From Russia With Love’.
Rich in romance and drawing once again from Russia’s deep musical well with the inclusion of selections from Sergei Prokofiev’s spellbinding score for the ballet Romeo & Juliet, this concert will deliver a diverse program that explores various notions of love.
The Adelaide Youth Orchestra’s 2012 Maestro Series opens on Sunday March 25 at Elder Hall with ‘Raising the Iron Curtain’ - an exhilarating program which will shine the spotlight on an exceptionally talented young Chinese South Australian musician as it pays tribute to some of Russia’s finest composers.
Adelaide Youth Orchestra’s final Maestro Series program for the year is a showcase for the mastery of voice. Featuring acclaimed young tenor Robert Macfarlane performing the world premiere of a new song cycle by Calvin Bowman and the overture from Rossini’s much-loved The Barber of Seville, the September 25th concert will be a magnificent evening of symphonic music at Elder Hall.

Studio, on Sunday, 21st August. The Adelaide Youth Sinfonia, conducted by Phillip Paine with
special guests, the Young Adelaide Voices Intermediate Choir will present two engaging and
fun-filled concerts, designed to introduce youngsters to live classical music.
When the Adelaide Youth Orchestra formally celebrates its tenth birthday on June 26th at the Adelaide Town Hall it will be under the baton of its long time conductor Keith Crellin and in the company of some of its dearest friends and alumni, including super star cellist Pei-Sian Ng.
Home to South Australia’s best and brightest young musicians aged 8-25 years for the past decade, the 70- piece symphony orchestra and its sibling ensembles the Adelaide Youth Sinfonia and Adelaide Youth Strings will all perform in the 10th Anniversary Concert, ensuring a truly memorable day of orchestral music.
The importance of performance opportunities for young orchestral musicians will be beautifully illustrated when ASO Horn player Brian Griffiths guests with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra for their Maestro Series concert on Sunday June 5th. Griffiths, the latest addition to the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s horn section, is an AdYO alumnus and mentor, and performs with the youth orchestra as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations in 2011.
The concert, entitled Pictures, is the second in the 2011 Maestro Series and takes its name from Russian composer Mussorgsky’s famed work Pictures at an Exhibition. Guest soloist Griffiths will perform Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.3 with the orchestra as part of the program, which also includes the Academic Festival Overture by Brahms.
