AdYO alum joins Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artists program

Youth Orchestra alumni cellist Jack Overall has been announced as one of six string players to join the ACO's prestigious development program in 2025.
Adelaide-born Jack (pictured bottom left) began learning with Ruth Saffir and recently completed his Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Elder Conservatorium, with Simon Cobcroft.  Jack is currently in his second year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under the tutelage of Howard Penny.

Jack has played concertos with the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Youth Orchestra and performs recitals regularly around Adelaide. He has played with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra through the ANAM side-by-side program and plays casually with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Jack is also an avid chamber musician, having performed in the 2022 Coriole Music Festival and Chamber Music Adelaide’s On The Terrace. Recent performance highlights include George Crumb’s Black Angels as part of ANAM’s The Innovative Spirit of George Crumb festival, the Melbourne Recital Centre’s inaugural New Music Days festival, and Strauss’s Capriccio with the ANAM orchestra directed by Simone Young.

Jack has received numerous accolades, including the EMR Music Travel Scholarship, Eugene Alderman Scholarship, James Whitehead Scholarship from the University of Adelaide, and multiple prizes from the Adelaide Eisteddfod. Aside from music, Jack is a lover of Lego and pretends to be a chef at home.

2025 marks the ACO’s 50th anniversary, and the 20th year of the Emerging Artist Program. The six selected musicians will rehearse and perform as part of the ACO Collective, working closely with ACO musicians throughout the year.
