Following an international recruitment search, the Adelaide Youth Orchestras has appointed celebrated clarinettist, music educator and recipient of the 2015 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year award Lloyd Van’t Hoff to join the organisation in key artistic leadership role.
Van’t Hoff succeeds the legendary Keith Crellin OAM, who retires after more than two decades of transformative leadership.
The appointment comes at a historic juncture for the organisation, as 2026 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Adelaide Youth Orchestras.
With a recruitment process that drew high-calibre interest from across Australia and overseas, affirming AdYO’s standing in the international music community, Van’t Hoff will commence in the role in June 2026.
“To lead an organisation that represents the very best of youth orchestras and music education, where young people discover their artistry, confidence and sense of belonging, is an honour” says Van’t Hoff. “I am excited to build on the extraordinary foundation Keith Crellin has created and to work alongside the remarkable students and team of AdYO as we imagine an ambitious and inspiring next chapter together.”
Adelaide Youth Orchestras honours the legacy of Keith Crellin OAM with the transition marking the end of an era.
Since 2002, Keith Crellin has been the heartbeat of AdYO, mentoring thousands of young South Australians and elevating the orchestra to international standards of excellence.
Catherine Baldwin AM, AdYO Board Chair says Keith’s contribution to the Australian musical landscape is immeasurable.
“His legacy is not just in the music played, but in the thousands of lives he has shaped through rigour, passion, and artistic integrity. We are eternally grateful for his 24 years of service,” says Ms Baldwin.
Keith continues to contribute to AdYO as Chief Conductor for the Gala Centenary Celebration of the late Diana Ramsey AO at the Adelaide Town Hall on 27 June.
Lloyd will commence in the position as planning for next year begins and in preparation for his debut concert with AdYO as Chief Conductor at the Adelaide Town Hall on 26 September.
On behalf of the Board, staff and supporters, Catherine Baldwin AM says “Lloyd’s abundant energy, creativity and exceptional musicality brings an air of excitement and intrigue to AdYO as we look forward to a vibrant program of activities for our 280+ young musicians.”
