The Adelaide Youth Orchestras (AdYO) Board invites music professionals who are passionate about the development of young musicians to submit an Expression of Interest for the role of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor for our flagship symphony orchestra.

AdYO’s new Artistic Director will join our award-winning arts organisation which has supported almost 2,000 young musicians to participate in high quality orchestral music since 2001.

This is a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young South Australians, including those not yet part of Adelaide Youth Orchestras.

As our new Artistic Director, you will:

  • utilise your passion and energy to inspire and challenge our young musicians,
  • conduct an exciting concert series with our AdYO symphony orchestra,
  • create a caring and supportive environment bring a clear artistic vision and contribute to our strategic direction,
  • be our principal advocate and storyteller
  • have a collaborative approach to working with our management and the Board of Directors,
  • provide strong leadership for our conductors and tutors,
  • nurture relationships with funders and supporters,
  • develop our sector partnerships including Elder Conservatorium, ASO and Carclew, and
  • amplify and showcase the success of our musicians and organisation.

Each week across four school terms, around 280 children and young people attend rehearsals and tutorials for our five orchestras and three ensembles.

We have an annual program of concerts in city and suburban venues, in-school workshops and performances and, occasional, large scale public concerts.

Our collaboration with arts organisations across choral, jazz and classical music are a hallmark of our organisation.

Keith Crellin OAM has been our Artistic Director since 2002, guiding and growing AdYO into the outstanding organisation it is today. The timing of his retirement is flexible, allowing for a smooth transition and any forward commitments you have in place.

The position may be full-time, part-time and/or pro rata per annum and will be appropriately remunerated.
