When the Adelaide Youth Orchestra formally celebrates its tenth birthday on June 26th at the Adelaide Town Hall it will be under the baton of its long time conductor Keith Crellin and in the company of some of its dearest friends and alumni, including super star cellist Pei-Sian Ng.
Home to South Australia’s best and brightest young musicians aged 8-25 years for the past decade, the 70- piece symphony orchestra and its sibling ensembles the Adelaide Youth Sinfonia and Adelaide Youth Strings will all perform in the 10th Anniversary Concert, ensuring a truly memorable day of orchestral music.

The importance of performance opportunities for young orchestral musicians will be beautifully illustrated when ASO Horn player Brian Griffiths guests with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra for their Maestro Series concert on Sunday June 5th. Griffiths, the latest addition to the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s horn section, is an AdYO alumnus and mentor, and performs with the youth orchestra as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations in 2011.
The concert, entitled Pictures, is the second in the 2011 Maestro Series and takes its name from Russian composer Mussorgsky’s famed work Pictures at an Exhibition. Guest soloist Griffiths will perform Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.3 with the orchestra as part of the program, which also includes the Academic Festival Overture by Brahms.
